2015文化財ウィーク『江戸城から明治宮殿へ』図録p.20「御学問所（表御座所）は、表宮殿の中でも中段に位置し、天皇が日常の政務を執り、皇族や国務大臣との接見を行うための部屋でした。内謁見所（鳳凰之間）では謁見のほか、歌会始(うたかいはじめ)や講書始(こうしょはじめ)などの伝統的な宮中儀式が行われました。明治天皇には、近代国家の元首としての多様な役割が求められ、これらの部屋は天皇の日常的な活動の場として機能していました。（An Okoshiezu of the Imperial Study and State Room in the Front Palace）The Imperial Study was the room where the Emperor dealt with the daily affairs of state, and received members of the Imperial Family and Ministers of State. The Ho'onoma Reception Room was used for traditional palace ceremonies, as well as receptions. Emperors from Meiji onward were called upon to perform a range of roles as leader of a modern state, including presiding over state affairs and diplomatic ceremonies.」
