2015文化財ウィーク『江戸城から明治宮殿へ』図録p.21「江戸城の御殿などに採用された書院造では、近世社会における格式が床の高低や天井の仕上げなどに視覚的に表されていました。この図面から、奥宮殿においてもこの考え方が適用されていたことが分かります。奥宮殿全体で最も床が高い部屋である「剣璽之間」には神器が安置されていました。また、聖上常御殿（赤）、皇后宮常御殿（黄緑）、皇太后宮御休所・宮御殿（青）という床の高さの順序は、皇族の序列に対する考え方を反映したものと見られています。（A Color-Coded Plan of Floor Height in the Inner Palace）According to the Shoin style of design used in the palaces in Edo Castle, the medieval concept of status was displayed visually through the height of floors and the design of ceilings.
