文化財ウィーク2010『黒船が来た！』図録解説p.1「江戸時代の蘭学系の代表的な世界地図。幕府天文方の高橋景保が、イギリスのアロースミスの世界 地図を原図として、幕命により完成させた。間宮林蔵のカラフト探検の成果である間宮海峡も正確に 載っている。日本を中央に置くために世界図の東西半球を入れ替えたり、左上に京都中心の半球図を 載せるなどの工夫をしている。（Newly Revised Map of the World: Eastern and Western Hemispheres）This is one of the foremost maps of the world produced by Edo-period scholars who studied Western arts and sciences through the Dutch language. It was drawn up under the Shogunate's orders by the Shogunate's official astronomer Takahashi Kageyasu, based on Arrowsmith's map of the world from England. The map accurately depicts the Mamiya Strait, named following Mamiya Rinzō's successful expedition to Sakhalin. The map features various devices such as reversing the positions of the eastern and western hemispheres of the globe in order to situate Japan close to the center of the map, and the addition in the top left of a small hemispherical map that is centered on Kyoto.」
