2015文化財ウィーク『江戸城から明治宮殿へ』図録p.17「明治22年（1889）1月11日、明治天皇と昭憲皇太后は新築成った宮殿へと移りました。午前10時に赤坂仮皇居（現在の迎賓館付近）を出発し、四ツ谷、麹町を通って半蔵門前に至り、そこから現在の内堀通りを三宅坂、桜田門へと進み、11時に宮城へ到着しました。この絵は皇居前広場の辺りに差しかかったところで、背景に正門の二つの橋が見えます。前の馬車に軍服姿の天皇と侍従長、次の馬車に洋装の皇后と典侍(ないしのすけ)が乗り、近衛士官・騎兵二小隊等が供奉(ぐぶ)していました。二重橋外では、御用花火師の鍵屋により、数十本の花火が打ち上げられました。（Relocation to the New Palace）In 1889, the Meiji Emperor and Empress Shōken finally moved into the new Palace. This picture represents the view on entering the Palace Plaza, with the two bridges at the Main Gate visible in the background. The Emperor and Grand Chamberlain, dressed in military uniform, ride in the foremost carriage, and the Empress and her senior lady-in-waiting, in Western dress, ride in the second, with the retinue of Officers of the Imperial Guards and two Cavalry Platoons following.」
