2016文化財ウィーク『いざ江戸城へ！』図録p.24「山王祭は6月15日に行われる、現在の日枝神社（千代田区）の祭礼で、将軍の上覧に供された天下祭の1つです。天和元年（1681）からは、神田明神祭礼と隔年で行われました。白象の作りものなど、趣向を凝らした山車の行列は江戸城内に入ることを許されており、将軍や御台所、大奥の女中などが吹上御庭の上覧所から見物しました。（Shōgun's inspection of the Sannō Festival (from the Chiyoda no On-omote series)）Held on June 15, the Sannōsairei is the religious festival of what is now Hie Shrine in Chiyoda Ward. It is one of the greatest festivals in Edo presented for the Shōgun’s viewing. It has been held every other year since 1681, alternating with the Kanda Myōjin Sairei Festival. A procession of elaborately designed festival floats decorated with white elephants and other imagery were permitted to enter Edo Castle, where they were observed by the Shōgun and his wife and maids in the Fukiage area.」
