(Kanadehon Chūshingura, Act 5)The setting then shifts from Kamakura to Kyōto. Kanpei has been living together with Okaru at her parent’s home. Disguised as a hunter, he encounters his former colleague Senzaki Yagorō and promises to raise funds for the revenge plot. To allow Kanpei to return to the life of a samurai, Okaru sells herself into prostitution in Gion red-light district, but her father Yoichibē is attacked and killed by the bandit Ono Sadakurō and that money is stolen. Just then, Kanpei fires a bullet at a wild boar but misses and hits Sadakurō. Unable to discern who the man is in the dark, Kanpei discovers a coin purse containing money and delivers it as the funds he had promised to raise.」
