(Illustration of a famous restaurant in Edo with a kabuki actor: Ebizako no jū)At the top of this picture is Ebiya, a restaurant that was located in Ōji. The character is Ebizako no Jū of Ichikawa Ebizō (5th-generation Ichikawa Danjūrō) who appeared in the kabuki play, "Ōfunamori Ebinokaomise," and the actor is the 8th-generation Ichikawa Danjūrō. The "ebi" of the stage name, Ebizō, meaning "the shrimp," was adopted at the time the 5th-generation Ichikawa Danjūrō performed in his first play in 1792, as a show of humbleness. The name stuck, and it has since been passed down through the generations of Danjūrō's family.」
