「新大橋は、隅田川の両国橋と永代橋の間に架かる橋です。描かれている女性は、商家の娘です。手にしているのは、恋文などを書くときに使う巻紙で、水色の水紋が入った高級品です。手紙の最後の部分を折り、舌でその折った部分を濡らして、紙を千切ろうとしています。(Famous Places in Edo, Hundred Beautiful Women: Shin-Ōhashi Bridge)Shin Ōhashi Bridge is a bridge over Sumida River, located between Ryōgokubashi Bridge and Eitaibashi Bridge. The woman in the illustration is the daughter of a merchant. She is holding a piece of rolled letter paper used, for example, to write love letters. It is high-quality paper with light blue wave patterns on it. She has folded the end of the paper strip and is wetting it with her tongue to cut it.」
