2023文化財ウィーク第二会場(12)「北桔橋門の桝形(ますがた)(城によくみられる門の構えで、門や城壁で四角に囲ったもの)を撮ったものです。櫓(やぐら)門の右手の岩岐多聞櫓(がんきたもんやぐら)では、斜めに架けた2本の木樋(もくひ)で水を汲み上げていました。江戸城水事情の良くなかった江戸では水道が発達していました。この門前の橋は、桔橋(はねばし)(跳ね橋)で、橋の一方を跳ね上げて通行不能とする構造の橋でした。(Kitahanebashi Gate of Edo Castle Honmaru palace (Edo Castle photography Collection) )This photograph shows the dilapidated Kitahanebashi Gate, located close to the site of the castle donjon. Water supply facilities were located here, with water transported using wooden conduits. The name of the gate derives from the positioning of a hanebashi in front of the gate. A hanebashi is a drawbridge, one end of which can be raised in order to prevent passage to the other side.」
