2021文化財ウィーク電子展示資料解説p.3(7)「事件名になっている桜田門の平面図です。江戸城外郭26図の全体図と番所の平面図を折本に仕立てたもので、全体が国重要文化財に指定されています。第3図が「外桜田御門」で、江戸城の門に多い枡形(ますがた)構えです。枡形は敵の侵入を防ぐために工夫された門の形式で、一の門と二の門の2重の門構え、その間は直角に曲がるようになっているものです。外桜田門は震災・戦災を乗り越えて現存しており、国重要文化財に指定されています。(Illustrations of Edo Castle Exterior Gates (3) Sakurada Gomon Outer Gate) This is a ground plan of Sakuradamon, which is known for the incident of the same name. It is the third in a collection of 26 illustrations of the exterior of Edo Castle, a government-designated Important Cultural Property. Sakuradamon is a masugata construction comprising stone-walls that surrounded a square space. The pathway between the first and the second gates in the walls turned at a right angle.The Sakuradamon gate still stands today, and has been designated by the Japanese government as an Important Cultural Property.」，シリーズ江戸城 2「今回は『江戸城御外郭御門絵図』から「虎御門（虎ノ門）」をご紹介します。外桜田門・半蔵門など計26門を収録、中には遺構も少なく地名にその名残を留めるだけのものも。平面図なので、いずれも強固な桝形（ますがた）構えだったことが一目瞭然です。桝形、つまり内外二重の門の間に土手や堀で方形空間を設け、侵入する敵に側面攻撃を加えるための構造で、究極の城門形式といわれています。開門時の内法（うちのり、柱間の寸法）が「弐間壱尺四寸（＝約4メートル強）」とあり、その門構えに想像が膨らみます。」， 2010文化財ウィーク『黒船が来た！』図録解説p.24「桜田門には、内桜田門（桔梗門）と外桜田門があるが、 「桜田門外の変」は、この外桜田門の付近で起こった。 江戸城の門の多くは枡形になっていた。枡形とは、敵の 侵入を防ぐために工夫された門の形式で、櫓門（一の門） と高麗門（二の門）を設けた2重の門構えになっている。 門によって格が違い、守衛の人数や武器も違っていた。(Diagram of Gates Around the Outer Walls of Edo Castle)Sakurada-mon Gate has an inner and outer gate. The Sakurada-mon Incident took place near the Outer Sakurada-mon Gate. Many of the gates of Edo Castle had "masugata" shapes. "Masugata" gates were designed to prevent enemies from entering with double gates consisting of a "yagura-mon" gate and a "kōrai-mon" gate. The numbers of guards and their ranks, as well as the weapons they were armed with differed from gate to gate.」，2007文化財ウィーク（27）「江戸城外郭26図の全体図と番所の平面図を折本に仕立てたもの。享保2年 (1717)10月の奥書がある。掲出は、馬場先御門。元禄地震の際、ここでは番人の詰所である番所がつぶれて死者・怪我人が出、石垣も崩れるという惨状だった。This is an accordion book of 26 overall diagrams of the outer gates of the double gates that surrounded Edo Castle, and the floor plans of guard houses. The date on this diagram says, "October 1717." The opened page shows Babasaki Gomon Gate. The guard room here collapsed in the Genroku Earthquake killing and injuring people. The stone wall collapsed too, and it was in a terrible state.」，2007文化財ウィーク（24）「元和6年(1620)に完成されたといわれている清水門の枡形平面図。清水門は、明暦の大火の際には大きな損傷を受けたが、元禄地震では石垣が崩れ所々破損したとはいえ、他の諸門と比べ被害は少なかった。昭和36年6月7日に「旧江戸城清水門」の名称で重要文化財に指定されている。原資料27では別の箇所を掲出。This is a ground plan of the "masugata" Shimizu-mon Gate completed in 1620. Shimizu-mon Gate was damaged badly in the Great Fire of Meireki. In the Genroku Earthquake, the stone wall collapsed and the gate was damaged in certain places, but compared to various other gates, the damage here was not as great. On June 7, 1962, it was designated as a National Important Cultural Property under the name of Kyū Edojō Shimizu-mon.」，2005文化財ウィーク（85）「26図からなる折本の表紙、裏表紙、本紙継ぎ手を外し、解体して修理しました。修理前の本紙には多数の虫損が見られましたが、裏打紙には殆どない状態でした。本紙が虫害にあった後の裏打ちと考えられましたので、今後の保存を重視し新しい裏打紙に取替えました。本紙周りの装飾紙は再使用し、折本の装丁も元通りとし変更していません。虫損部に補紙を行い、文字・線が読取りやすくなっています。本資料は、「外曲輪26門」とそこに置かれた番所の平面図を描いています。この外曲輪は6大門以外の内曲輪の門までを含めて江戸時代このように呼んでいたものです。掲出図は、日比谷門と和田倉門の間にあった馬場先門です。The front cover, back cover and patchwork on the pages were dismantled and removed to restore them. Before they were restored, the pages had numerous holes where insects had eaten away at the paper, but the reinforcing paper on the back had hardly been touched. It is believed that the pages were reinforced after they had been damaged by insects, so the reinforcing paper was replaced to make sure the pages would remain well preserved. The decorative paper around the outside was reused, and the original accordion design has been preserved. The parts damaged by insects have been reinforced, making the writing and lines easier to see.」
