(Gegyo, the decoration above Shiroshoin of Edo Castle Honmaru)Gegyo were decorations that were used to cover the ridge beam of a roof, and they are used even today on the roofs and gates of temples. The fins on both sides of the gegyo were sculpted from peony, and they are similar to the gegyo above the Naka-mon Gate. Gegyo with sculpted fins are only found above the main entrance hall, Ōhiroma (large hall), and Shiroshoin, and rooms north of Kuroshoin only have simple decorations. The onigawara ridge-end tiles were not made of devil face, but they had shapes known as Lion's face, and the ridge-end tiles of Naka-mon Gate were somewhat more decorative.」
