(Honmaru Main Keep Constructed in the Kōka Period)The Honmaru Main Keep was preserved intact for close to 190 years after the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657, but was destroyed by fire again in 1844. This plan shows the Front and Central Palaces of the Honmaru, which were rebuilt the year after the fire, in 1845. The new buildings differed in several ways from the old palace, which had been constructed in the Manji period (1658-1661). One was that a tea ceremony room was included in the Shōgun's rest area, shown in the upper right of the plan, which had been added to the palace midway. Another change was that the area surrounding the Noh theater stage was made into a garden. 」
